Sadly Porsche passed away today. These portrait photos were taken on the 12th April, 5 days ago. I had noticed over the past couple of weeks that her wattles and comb were taking on a bluish tinge. I asked Gemini AI, which seems a very good search engine, collating lots of info, though you do need to be wary of its conclusions which can be wrong. At 12 years old, Porsche was very elderly and the bluish tinge suggested that she maybe wasn't getting quite enough oxygen. However she was still hopping around quite happily, eating and coming for treats.
It suggested that her organs were probably going to slowly shut down. I gave her poultry tonic in the drinking water as a gentle way to keep her going, but two days ago I spotted that her back, near the wax gland by the tail, had been pecked raw and bare (with a little blood) by the others. I sprayed her with PoultryCleanse - a bright purple anti-septic which also discourages pecking. Yesterday she still seemed OK, but she was standing more upright and I could see her breathing was a little laboured. I picked her up, gave her a little stroke and chatted to her as I gave her treats.
This morning she was dead, so she has gone to the bottom of the garden to feed the wildlife.
This photo shows more clearly how she was looking bluish.
